HOW IS PORT MADE?

Port, which is ony made in Portugal has different varieties of grapes that either co-ferment or become finished wines in order to make different styles of Port. The two major types of Port are Ruby-Style Ports and Tawny Ports. The difference: Ruby-Style Ports consist of different blends and need to age for two to three years before bottling while Tawny Ports are in vats or barrels. Through a life cycle of Port starts in the vineyards and ends in the cellars. Throughout this process, grapes are picked, replanted, harvested and eventually stepped on which leads to the fermentation process. Through the journey of maceration, there must be an absorption of flavor, tannins and color from the grape skins - a tradition that people have been doing for centuries.
