MAKE WAY FOR TAWNY PORTS
This year’s star is tawny port! After the hottest temperatures in recent memory in the Douro Valley, winemakers in the region are relying on wood aging processes to create perfect tawny ports with imperfect grapes. Winemakers are adjusting the blends based on which grapes flourished in these conditions. Which grape rose to the top? Tinto Cão is thought to be one of the oldest grapes in the Douro Valley and acclimatized exceptionally well to this year’s conditions, so you can expect to see a high percentage of the grape’s acidic flavor in this year’s blends!
